Welcome!
Welcome to nikkisongsforchildren, the home of exciting song books for use in Primary schools.
Suitable for children at Foundation level and KS1, these imaginative song books are an excellent resource for the school teacher for use in the classroom or in assembly.
Original and fun, the books are beautifully illustrated and presented with easy to read text. The piano score is simple and the CD has vocals to listen to as well as separate backing tracks to sing along to. The music is catchy and lively and lends itself to percussion, actions and movement.
The material provides a platform for the use of masks, paintings, costume, and narration which allows plenty of scope to form a play or presentation, and the texts will stand alone as poems for exploring literacy within the classroom.
How it all began...
In 2002 Nikki was working as a pianist with a primary school and was invited to take part in the York Early Years Festival. This is an annual event where groups of children give a ten minute presentation on a subject, and in 2002 the theme was minibeasts and garden animals.
Nikki was commissioned to write something different from the traditional materials available, and so wrote five songs for the occasion. From there grew the ten part collection Who Lives In My Garden! and Nikkisongsforchildren was born.
For content, audio files, text and score samples see the books page.
Nikki's tunes and backing tracks are also used in the Spanish resource Viva Sings Spanish! by Caroline Nelson. The two musicians work closely together and Caroline is the vocalist for Nikki's songbooks and for her own Spanish collection. See www.espanaviva.biz.
